The Church of Pentecost, South Africa, (COPSA)

National Head’s message

Welcome, and thank you so much for hitting our website. The Church of Pentecost is a multinational Church with mission outposts in over 90 countries in Africa, Europe, North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The South Africa mission was initiated by the then Deacon Evans Akuffo (currently a Pastor and missionary to Botswana) on October 14,1990 in Umtata in the former Transkei homeland in Apartheid South Africa. The Church has since expanded in S.A. to establish 14 administrative districts that comprise of a number of local assemblies. The Districts are Kempton Park, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Umtata, Bloemfontein, East London, Queenstown, Butterworth, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Durban, Witbank, Polokwane, and Kokstad (the physical addresses of our local churches are available on this website. It might also interest you to know that we are in affiliation with the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) and I have an excellent working relationship with the President, Rev. George Mahlobo, and the General Secretary, Rev Dr Henri Weidman, as well as the International President, Rev Dr Frank Chikane.

As a Pentecostal Church, our distinctiveness is appreciated in our emphasis on radical conversion, baptism of the Holy Spirit, and the manifestation of the fruit and gifts of the same Spirit. We believe in the divine inspiration and authority of the Bible, we pay tithes, practice divine healing, but we also approve of orthodox medicine. And we also have specialized ministries that respond to the needs of women, men, the youth, and children, as well as an evangelistic wing.

Some of the benefits you will enjoy for joining us, is the preaching of sound biblical doctrine that empowers and transforms lives spiritually, physically, morally, intellectually, socially, and financially. Indeed no dimension of your life would remain untouched if you had an encounter with Jesus in the Church of Pentecost. Furthermore, we have the unique ethos of equipping our laity to develop their theological and leadership potential. This practice is inspired by the concept of priesthood of all believers, based on 1 Peter 2:9, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, …”, where we offer ministry opportunities to willing and available members. And we are noted for our overriding concern for church discipline, as we remain one of the few trendy but conservative churches that hold church members accountable for their behaviour.

I encourage you to visit this website regularly for balanced and inspired biblical messages, find the contacts of some of our key leaders, discover the schedule for our life-transforming programmes and activities, find answers to some burning theological controversies, and inspire your vision for a rewarding and fulfilling Christian life.
